MacroMedia DreamWeaver

DreamWeaver is truely a dream for developers who want to easily create advanced web sites containing cross-platform JavaScript and Dynamic HTML.

DreamWeaver also provides the ability to be extended through a wide variety of third party objects, behaviors, and actions.

Microsoft FrontPage

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 overcame the primary reason for not reviewing previous versions, a 'bug'/'feature' that could potentially harm sites created with FrontPage's search engine rankings.  Although FrontPage 2000 doesn't include the META tags into their format, it doesn't force an un-optimized positioning of the META tags, as previous versions did.

FrontPage has great features for keeping large sites in check, and building the navigation elements of a web site automatically.  Some of my larger sites would be impossible to manage without the site management features that FrontPage offers.

FrontPage's major drawback is its over-reliance on FrontPage Server Extensions, which must be installed on your web server in order for all of FrontPage's features to work properly.  Database functionality requires a Windows- based server with ODBC support installed.

HoTMetaL Pro

HoTMetaL Pro allows users to rapidly design web sites. HoTMetaL Pro contains a number of pre-configured templates, and has access to a large number of additional features which can be dropped into a project.

HotDog Professional

HotDog Professional provides one of the easiest interfaces available, provides easy access to creating cross-platform DHTML animations, and has a large library of SuperTools available for automating tasks from adding LinkExchange banners, adding SafeSurf content ratings, and adding Java and JavaScript tools to the site.

If you are looking for taking your first steps into creating a web site with Java, JavaScript, and Dynamic HTML, HotDog Professional is worth a look.

Symantec Visual Page

Visual Page is excellent for creating the basic framework of your web site. However, it is limited as so far as adding advanced functionality like JavaScript to your site.

If you are looking for a quick and easy editor, for basic HTML, Visual Page is for you. However, as you decide to step up to advanced features you will most likely want to upgrade to another web editor package.
